The hard disk drive, or just hard disk, is the main repository of permanent data storage on a PC. The hard disk contains the operating system, the programs and all the data. A crashed hard disk is usually the worst case scenario for most PC owners, that is why it is critical to maintain regular, up-to-date back-ups of all data.
