The most important use of the HyperTerminal is to connect with the computer bulletin boards. The bulletin boards are mostly setup and granted the permission to use them for free or for some fee by the University library, colleges and the educational institutes. Bulletin boards are sometime operated by the individuals. After connecting to the remote computer you can transfer the files between your computer and the remote computer provided the other computer is setup up to access the connections and incoming call through the HyperTerminal and is setup to accept or sent the files remotely.
Also remember that you are not using the ISP for HyperTerminal connection if you connecting to the remote computer that is in another country you will bear the same charges as you talk on phone in that country. This is a Dial-up connection over the telephone lines and not the internet connection. You can also use HyperTerminal to help debugging the source code from the remote computer and you can also setup HyperTerminal to communicate with the old character-based computers.
