Server restart/boot takes long time

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

 APC and MS  patch conflict

Case 1: Server restart/boot takes long time

The client reports that the Windows 2000 server takes long time to reboot (20 to 30 minutes). After restart, every thing work fine.

Troubleshooting:

1. Check Vent Viewer for any error: none.

2. Check the DNS settings using nslookup: no error.

3. After we searched the Internet and found It's because APC power issue. Their server hangs due to Java license issue. There is a upgrade available to fix the issue.

Case 2: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

After install Microsoft Update, the client can't start or stop any services. Whenever they try, they will receive Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Troubleshooting:

1. Rebooted the server. That doesn't fix the problem.

2. Disabled Symantec Anti-virus. That doesn't fix the problem either.

3. Ran Safe Mode. Then we can start/stop any services. So, it must one software cause this issue. After we tried to stop service one by one. We found APC is the problem maker. Disable APC, every thing works fine.
