What is VOIP Router


VOIP stands for the Voice over Internet Protocol.  It is an Internet telephony system which enables you to make the long distance phone calls over the internet. A reliable internet connection is required to make the long distance phone calls over the internet. VOIP router is a device that allows your computer to be connected with the internet.  It provides the facilities of the high speed internet router and it also has the Analog Telephone Adapter. 

It has almost same features like the DSL modem except that it has the ATA port on it.  Basically there are two types of the VOIP routers available.  One type of it comes connected with the particular service providers. 

There are many VOIP service providers that provide the router free of cost like Vonage.  This type of router is normally pre-configured and you can use it easily without making many configurations. 

In the other type, you need to make the configurations by yourself i.e. set the IP address, default gateway, DNS and other settings.  It provides you the flexibility to change the service provider.
